Foster Parent Feature | Meet Rob and Amy
Amy and Rob, foster parents in Indiana who always knew they wanted children. And thanks to the influence of Amy’s great grandma, the couple decided foster parenting was the best option.
“My great grandma was a foster parent. Over time, she fostered more than 70 youth. I always knew it was something I wanted to do after watching her,” Amy says. “Once Rob was on board, we went for it.”
Since becoming foster parents, the South Bend couple, married 15 years, have fostered seven children. Currently, they are caring for Anna*, a 2-year-old girl they hope to adopt. Anna arrived at Rob and Amy’s home in June of 2017. At that time, Anna had developmental delays. She could only take a few steps and was not an adequate weight for her age.
In just a year, she is now walking and making progress in her speech. “One of my biggest wins was a month and a half ago when she allowed me to cradle her and rock her to sleep,” Amy says.
The couple is grateful for the support from the staff at The Villages, who have been available day or night to answer questions and address any concerns.
Amy says making the decision to be a foster parent is the hardest thing the couple has ever done, but the most rewarding. “Even the children you don’t have for very long, take up a big spot in your heart,” she says.
The Villages salutes Amy and Rob and all our foster parents in Indiana for showing unconditional love to Indiana’s most vulnerable children. If you are ready to make a difference in the life of a child and are called to become a foster parent please attend one of our many info sessions held across the state.
